The short version
- Your recordings, screenshots, transcripts and edits stay on your Mac. ScreenCameo never uploads them.
- There's no account and no sign-in. Your license key is checked on your Mac.
- The app has no analytics or tracking.
- The app connects to screencameo.com for two things only: checking for updates, and downloading the list of refunded license keys. Updates you choose to install are downloaded from GitHub, where the release files are hosted.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
- If you join the launch list, your email address is used only to tell you when ScreenCameo launches.
What the app does on your Mac
Recording, editing, captions and transcripts, voice clean-up, text recognition and automatic redaction all run on your Mac. Your recordings and exports live on your Mac (exports go to Movies → ScreenCameo → Exports by default), and ScreenCameo keeps no copy anywhere else.
ScreenCameo asks macOS for these permissions, and uses them only to make your recordings and screenshots:
- Screen Recording, to capture your screen.
- Microphone and Camera, only when you choose a microphone or camera.
- Input Monitoring (Keystrokes), optional, to show the shortcuts you press and to find typing worth speeding up. Only the names of shortcuts are saved, never what you type.
What the app sends over the internet
The app makes two kinds of requests to screencameo.com, and downloads updates from GitHub:
- Update checks. It downloads
/updates/appcast.xmlto see whether a newer version exists. It doesn't send a system profile. - Refunded keys. When it launches, after your Mac wakes from sleep, and about twice a day while it runs, it
downloads
/updates/revoked.json, a public list of refunded license IDs, and compares it with your license on your Mac, so a refunded key stops working the next time it checks while online. Your license key is never sent. - Update downloads. When you install an update, the app downloads it from GitHub Releases
(
github.com/qx24680/screencameo-releases), where the app's release files are hosted. The download is signed, and the app checks the signature before installing it.
Like any web request, these reveal your IP address to the server that answers them. They contain no recordings, no license key and no personal details. Activating a license happens entirely on your Mac. You can see this list in the app under Settings → Privacy.
This website
screencameo.com uses no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party fonts. The only third-party script is PayPal's checkout, which loads on the Buy page when you choose to pay; PayPal's own privacy statement covers it. Like every website, our hosting provider processes basic request data (such as your IP address, browser and the page you asked for) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
The launch list
If you join the launch list, we keep your email address to send you one message when ScreenCameo launches. We don't use it for anything else, and we never sell or share it. Depending on how you signed up, it reaches us through our email provider or as an email to [email protected]. To be removed, email [email protected].
Buying ScreenCameo
Payments are handled by our payment provider. We receive your name, email address, country and order details so we can send your license key, help you, and process refunds. We never see your full card details. Your license key contains the email address you bought with, so the app can show who it's licensed to.
Support emails
When you write to us, we use your message and email address only to help you, and keep the conversation for as long as it's useful for supporting you.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you (usually: nothing, or your email address), and ask us to correct or delete it. Email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If ScreenCameo ever needs to send more data than described above, we'll say so in the app before it happens.
