Audio & music
Improve voice audio and add music to a screen recording: clean up your mic, balance levels, add music that dips when you talk, and cut silences.
Improve your voice audio #
ScreenCameo can improve the voice audio in a screen recording on your Mac. It removes background noise and echo and evens out loudness. You also set the level of your microphone and of Mac sound separately.
- Press Esc so nothing is selected, then click the Audio tab, or press Cmd5.
- Under Voice, turn on Enhance voice. A progress bar shows while it works. It runs on your Mac; nothing is uploaded.
- Drag Microphone from 0 to 200% to make your voice louder or quieter.
- Drag Mac sound for videos and app sounds. It only shows if you recorded Mac sound.
You hear each change straight away, even while the video plays.
Add background music #
- Under Background music, click Add music… and choose an audio file.
- Drag Music volume to set its level. It starts at 35%.
- Keep Lower while I talk on so the music dips whenever you speak.
- Click Replace… to swap the song, or the bin button to remove it.
The music loops to fit your video. It fades in over 0.8 s and out over 2 s at the end.
Cut silences #
Long pauses make a video drag. ScreenCameo finds the quiet parts and cuts them, or plays them faster.
- Click Silences in the timeline toolbar.
- Choose Cut silences longer than 1 s, Cut silences longer than 2 s or Speed through silences (4×).
- The quiet parts become their own clips and are cut out, or sped up and muted.
The Silences section of the Audio tab has the same with two buttons: Cut silences and Speed through. Both look for silences longer than 1 s.
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| Cut silences longer than 1 s | Cuts every quiet stretch longer than 1 s. |
| Cut silences longer than 2 s | Cuts only quiet stretches longer than 2 s, so shorter pauses stay. |
| Speed through silences (4×) | Plays quiet stretches longer than 1 s at 4× with no sound, so what happens on screen stays. |
Voiceovers, clicks and captions #
Want to talk over the video after recording? The Voiceover & presenter section of the Audio tab is covered in Presenter. Click sounds live in the Cursor tab, and captions can be made from your voice.
Shortcuts on this page#

If something’s off#
- I can’t find Enhance voice
- It only shows when the recording has a microphone track.
- There’s no Mac sound slider
- The recording has no Mac sound. Turn it on in the Capture Bar before you record.
- Silences is greyed out
- The recording has no sound, or ScreenCameo is still reading it. Wait a moment and try again.
- The music is too loud under my voice
- Turn on Lower while I talk, or drag Music volume down.
