ScreenCameo is also a screenshot app for Mac. It freezes the screen, so menus and hover states hold still while you choose. Every capture can be copied, saved, annotated or pinned, and you can copy text from anything on screen.

Take a screenshot of an area or a window #

  1. Press OptionShift4. Or choose File → Screenshot Area or Window, or click the menu-bar icon → Screenshot Area or Window.
  2. The screen freezes. Drag to select an area; the size shows in pixels as you drag.
  3. Or click a window to capture just that window. The window under the pointer lights up with its app’s name.
  4. Press Esc to cancel.

Screenshot the full screen #

Press OptionShift3, or choose File → Screenshot Full Screen. ScreenCameo captures the whole screen your pointer is on, straight away.

Copy, save, annotate or pin a screenshot #

After each capture, a thumbnail appears in a corner of the screen. Point at it to see four buttons. You can also drag the thumbnail straight into an email, a chat or a document.

ButtonWhat it does
CopyPuts the image on the clipboard. Paste it anywhere with CmdV.
SaveSaves a file with your format and file name from Settings → Screenshots.
AnnotateOpens the screenshot editor. See annotate & beautify.
PinKeeps the image floating above your windows.

A pinned screenshot stays on every desktop. Drag it to move it, drag an edge to resize it, and scroll on it to make it see-through. Press Esc to close it.

The thumbnail hides after 8 seconds, unless the pointer is on it. Change that under Hide thumbnail after: 3, 5, 8, 12 or 20 seconds, or Never. Thumbnail corner picks the corner.

Copy text from the screen on Mac #

Copy text from the screen when you can’t select it: in an image, a video, a screenshot or an app that won’t let you. ScreenCameo reads the words on your Mac; nothing is uploaded.

  1. Press OptionShift2, or choose File → Capture Text.
  2. Drag over the text on screen.
  3. A note says Text copied and shows the first words. Paste it anywhere with CmdV.

Repeat the last screenshot or wait first #

  1. Choose File → Repeat Last Screenshot to capture the same area again, without selecting. It’s handy for before and after shots.
  2. It has no key to start with. Give it one in Settings (CmdComma) → Shortcuts → Repeat last screenshot.
  3. To capture a menu or a hover state, set Settings → Screenshots → Delay: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 or 10 seconds. A countdown shows before the capture.

Choose where screenshots go and their format #

Open Settings (CmdComma) → Screenshots. Save on the thumbnail and in the editor uses these.
