System requirements
ScreenCameo system requirements in short: macOS 26 or later, a little free disk space, and internet only for a few small things.
The ScreenCameo system requirements are short. Your Mac needs macOS 26 or later. Recording, editing, captions and export all run on your Mac, so most of the app works without internet.
ScreenCameo needs macOS 26 or later #
ScreenCameo is a native Mac app built for macOS 26. It won’t open on an earlier version of macOS. There’s no iPhone or iPad version.
Check your macOS version #
- Click the Apple menu at the top left of your screen.
- Choose About This Mac.
- Read the macOS name and version under the picture of your Mac. It needs to say macOS 26 or later.
What works offline and what needs internet #
ScreenCameo has no account and no cloud. Your recordings, screenshots, transcripts and voice clean-up never leave your Mac. A connection is only needed for these:

| The refunded-key list | Yes, a short list of license keys that were refunded. It’s fetched at launch, after your Mac wakes and every 12 hours. |
Keep some disk space free #
Recordings are saved to your disk as you record. Long recordings, 4K displays and 60 fps make bigger files. Where your files are shows where they go.

If something’s off#
- ScreenCameo won’t open on my Mac
- Check your version in Apple menu → About This Mac. ScreenCameo needs macOS 26 or later.
- Captions are stuck on “Downloading the on-device speech model…”
- macOS needs internet once to fetch the speech model for that language. Connect, wait for it to finish, and it works offline after that.
- A recording stopped on its own
- Your disk was almost full. Free some space, then keep recording. Troubleshooting has more causes.
